There are two 18 hole golf courses within driving distance of the villa. Athough none of these are championship courses they are in beautiful surroundings and considerably cheaper and less crowded than some of the more popular ones around Malaga.
Campo de Golf los Moriscos
30 minute drive east along the coast near Salobrena. This is a 18 hole course by the sea. Tee times can be booked with their English speaking staff and clubs can be hired.
40 minute drive west of La Herradura. The Baviera golf course is a flat 18 hole course with tight fairways. The variety of holes and the unsurpassable views both to the Mediterranean sea and the mountains contribute to make you enjoy and share an unforgettable day.
Santa Clara Golf Granada
1 hour drive north of La Herradura. An 18 hole course designed by Don Enrique Canales Bosquet and opened in 2007. Beautiful view towards the Sierra Nevada mountains. Helpful staff and good value for money.
The Alhambra is a city, fortress and palace built by the kings of the Nasrid dynasty of the Kingdom of Granada. Officially declared a World Heritage Site in 1984, it is the symbol of Granada and is the most visited monument in Spain. Its not always easy to get a ticket so avoid disappointment and book in advance.
Skiing in Sierra Nevada
The Sierra Nevada mountains are about an hour and half away with Spains best skiing and highest peaks. Sierra Nevada’s main resort Sol y Nieve (meaning Sun and Snow) is Europe’s sunniest ski resort and at 2,200m also one of the highest, guaranteeing one of the longest ski seasons from early December to late April.
Sierra Nevada Ski Resort
Sierra Nevada is a surprisingly large ski resort with 23 lifts and 80 km with good intermediate skiing and excellent nursery slopes for beginners. There are many hotels and bars and the resort successfully mixes the Alpine apre-ski with traditional Spanish tapas. From the top of the Veleta at 3,400m, you can on a clear day see across the Mediterranean sea to the Atlas montains of Morocco. Prices are considerably cheaper than most Alpine resorts.
